Fingerprint
Recognition

Fingerprint recognition is a biometric technology that identifies or verifies an individual by analyzing the unique patterns and features of their fingerprints. Every person’s fingerprint—marked by distinct ridges, breakpoints, and intersections—serves as a one-of-a-kind identifier.

By capturing these characteristics, Qube Bio’s fingerprint recognition technology matches an individual’s fingerprint against stored data, ensuring secure and accurate identity verification.

How Does Fingerprint Recognition Work?

At Qube Bio, modern fingerprint recognition is powered by sophisticated automated algorithm software, eliminating outdated manual methods. We place a premium on privacy, ensuring that we neither capture nor store raw fingerprint images—unlike traditional approaches that relied on physical prints.

Instead, our advanced technology extracts minutiae, the unique ridge patterns, breakpoints, and intersections that define each fingerprint. These specific features are analyzed and converted into a compact, secure digital template through our proprietary algorithms. This templating process is fortified by AES-256 encryption, a military-grade standard that scrambles the data into an unreadable format, accessible only with the correct decryption key. This ensures that even if intercepted, the template remains useless to unauthorized parties.

Once created, the encrypted template enables rapid verification—either 1:1 (comparing against a single record) or 1:N (searching a broader database)—executed seamlessly on embedded devices or online systems. By avoiding manual images and leveraging encrypted templates, we deliver a fast, secure, and privacy-first approach to fingerprint recognition that you can trust.

Types of Fingerprint Sensors

There are four widely adopted fingerprint sensor technologies:

  • Optical Fingerprint Sensor
  • Capacitive Fingerprint Sensor
  • Thermal Fingerprint Sensor
  • Ultrasonic Fingerprint Sensor

Optical Fingerprint Sensor

The optical fingerprint sensor, a market-proven technology for over 30 years, is renowned for its reliability and durability. Featuring abrasion resistance, scratch resistance, and strong static electricity protection, it’s highly sensitive and dependable.

This sensor works by reflecting light off a finger placed on a glass prism. A built-in light source illuminates the fingerprint, and the uneven ridge patterns alter the light’s reflection. Captured by a CMOS or CCD sensor, the resulting image is processed into a template by our algorithms for secure verification.

Capacitive Fingerprint Sensor

Developed more recently, the capacitive fingerprint sensor excels with its compact size and excellent performance on dry or wet fingers. Unlike optical sensors, it uses tiny capacitor circuits to detect fingerprint ridges.

When a finger touches the sensor’s conductive plates, ridge contact alters the capacitors’ charge, while air gaps leave it unchanged. These variations are tracked and converted into a digital template, enabling precise 1:1 or 1:N verification.

Thermal Fingerprint Sensor

The thermal fingerprint sensor, a cutting-edge biometric innovation, stands out for its precision and resilience in challenging environments. Celebrated for its minimal power use and robust anti-spoofing measures, it delivers consistent performance.

This sensor detects subtle heat signatures created by a finger’s contact with its surface. By mapping temperature variations between ridges and valleys, a specialized thermal array generates a unique pattern, which our algorithms transform into a fortified digital template for seamless 1:1 or 1:N authentication.

Ultrasonic Fingerprint Sensor

The ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, a next-generation biometric technology, is prized for its depth-sensing capabilities and unmatched security. Its ability to scan through contaminants and verify live tissue makes it a top choice for modern applications.

This sensor emits high-frequency sound pulses that bounce off a finger’s surface and deeper layers. A sensitive receiver collects the reflected waves, and our advanced algorithms construct a detailed 3D digital template, enabling highly accurate 1:1 or 1:N authentication.
