Palm Vein
Recognition

Palm vein recognition refers to identifying or confirming an individual’s identity by analyzing the unique vein patterns beneath the skin of their palm. Unlike surface features, these internal vascular patterns are highly distinct and nearly impossible to replicate, offering a robust biometric identifier.

At Qube Bio, we utilize this advanced technology to match an individual’s palm vein data with stored records, delivering secure and precise identity verification for critical applications.

How Does Palm Vein Recognition Work?

Qube Bio’s palm vein recognition operates through state-of-the-art automated algorithms, far surpassing manual techniques. Privacy is paramount—we neither capture nor store raw images of the palm. Instead, our system uses near-infrared light to illuminate the palm, revealing the hidden vein structure. Specialized sensors detect the deoxygenated hemoglobin in the veins, which absorbs the infrared light, creating a detailed map of the vein patterns.

Our advanced algorithms then extract these unique features and convert them into a secure digital template, encrypted with AES-256 encryption—a gold-standard method that scrambles the data into an unreadable format, accessible only with the correct key. This ensures maximum protection against unauthorized access.

The encrypted template supports rapid 1:1 (one-to-one) or 1:N (one-to-many) verification, executed seamlessly on embedded devices or online systems. This contactless, privacy-first approach delivers reliable authentication with exceptional accuracy.

Types of Palm Vein Sensors

There are two key sensor technologies for palm vein recognition:

  • Near-Infrared (NIR) Sensors
  • Hybrid NIR-Camera Sensors

Near-Infrared (NIR) Sensors

NIR sensors are the cornerstone of palm vein recognition, widely valued for their precision and security. These sensors emit near-infrared light to penetrate the skin and capture the vein pattern below the surface.

The reflected light is analyzed to create a high-contrast image of the veins, which our algorithms process into an encrypted template. Known for their non-invasive, contactless operation, NIR sensors are ideal for hygiene-sensitive environments like healthcare.

Hybrid NIR-Camera Sensors

Hybrid NIR-camera sensors combine infrared technology with advanced imaging capabilities, enhancing versatility. These sensors pair NIR illumination with high-resolution cameras to capture both vein patterns and subtle surface details, improving accuracy in diverse conditions (e.g., varying skin tones or temperatures).

The resulting data is encrypted with AES-256, offering a robust solution for high-security applications like finance or government facilities.
